Crawl Postponed until Tomorrow 9/12/09

Email from Sam Droge…

It looks like we forgot to check with Mother Nature when we were setting our count dates…and now we are paying for this oversight!

We just got off the Cricket Red Phone and decided that it is unambiguously bad weather to listen for our friends tonight. The good news is that Saturday night looks great. Warm, no wind, very low chance of rain. So we have shifted to Saturday Night for the Count.

Everything else remains the same,…same numbers, same emails, just 1 different days.

P.S. After dropping the Buffington Expedition off in Manhattan last night my daughters and I heard Jumping Bush Crickets and Greater Anglewings right from the car windows…!

Last Night the Rain Spoke to Me

Last night
the rain
spoke to me
slowly, saying,
what joy
to come falling
out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again
in a new way
on the earth!
That’s what it said
as it dropped,
smelling of iron,
and vanished
like a dream of the ocean
into the branches
and the grass below.
Then it was over.
The sky cleared.
I was standing
under a tree.
The tree was a tree
with happy leaves,
and I was myself,
and there were stars in the sky
that were also themselves
at the moment
at which moment
my right hand
was holding my left hand
which was holding the tree
which was filled with stars
and the soft rain –
imagine! imagine!
the long and wondrous journeys
still to be ours.
